How do you know when you're TOO old?

I'm a big fan of all things girly - headbands, jewelry, nail polish, handbags, the color pink... catch my drift? I have a stellar collection of all of the aforementioned goodies and love to indulge in their uses often. Well, I USED to love to indulge... that is until the sweet teenage cashier at my local grocery store complimented me on my over sized floral headband. The following week, she complimented me on my chunky costume jewelry. To some, they may have just shrugged it off. To me, I've turned this into a study of "Am I Too Old To Wear That?".

Mr. TL was with me when I received the compliment that broke the hypothetical camels back and as we left the store, I turned to him and said "Am I too old to wear costume jewelry like this?". He, being the smart man that he is, says to me "I don't think so - I think you look great" (insert collective "Awww" here!).

Now this isn't to say I dress like a teenager by any stretch. In fact, when I see my late 20 something counterparts dressing as such, I make audible groans at their lack of awareness that they are no longer 18 years old. But wait - am I one to be talking?!? The same teenage cashier (lovely as can be, by the way) keeps complimenting me on specific pieces of my ensemble that ,I think, she would wear herself (in fact, she typically follows her compliment with "where did you get that?").

It's official. I'm having a quarter + 2 years life crisis!

Okay okay. So maybe I'm over thinking this slightly. And maybe I'm being a wee bit ridiculous... but I think it's perfectly allowable in this situation.

Today I wore a pair of my favorite jeans (Seven = love!), a simple black tee, and Tory Burch flats. I felt chic but like I was missing something... so I reached for one of my favorite chunky pieces of jewelry, put it on, felt like a million bucks, and then remembered the cashiers compliment... but wait, is being mistaken for being younger necessarily a BAD thing? No way... and I'll probably be mucho grateful should that happen as I continue to age. I kept the necklace on, held my head up high and left for work.

I did, however, reminded myself that if I needed to stop at the grocery store on the way home, that I needed to take off the necklace. As a precautionary measure, of course.
